Art Therapy

“Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way” - Edward de Bono

Judith is a trained Art Therapist, which is a form of therapy for people finding it difficult to express themselves verbally, but wishing to confront and work through issues and move forward.

Renew Art

Renew Art was birthed in 2014. When Judith stumbled onto the discipline of Art Therapy, she was immediately inspired to combine her passion for helping people and her love of art and creative processes.

Judith is a trained Art Therapist with 12 years of experience. She has worked in Disability Support with adults, children and adults with special needs.

In Art Therapy, Judith will assist you to access unconscious issues through image-making. The creative and therapeutic process is significantly more important than the end product; the therapeutic need for you to express oneself being far more important than the aesthetic merits of art.

Judith loves using both “Art in Therapy “ and “Art as Therapy” to guide the individual to reveal their struggles to themselves, but most importantly, to highlight potential solutions and the possibilities of a way forward.

Judth took on the challenge to provide Art Therapy activities for our intellectually disabled daughter with much success.

Our daughter loves painting and looked forward happily to each session where she certainly came out with many achievements and improvements in her abilities. Her knowledge of colours and colour combination and shapes grew along with her fine motor skills and ability to focus to bring a task to completion. Her sense of achievement was great to see.

To keep activities interesting Judith ensured motivation through varying media from not only canvas but also paper, pottery, timber panels and other craft items.

So on reflection, our experience with Judith has been very positive and she has our recommendation to those contemplating Art Therapy services.

Judith has been the regular tutor for a group of adults with intellectual disability who were supported by Cooma Challenge Limited to pursue their goals.

Every fortnight, the group of 8 or 9 people met together to create art.

All the participants loved Judith. She communicated gently and effectively with each of them, in the ways they individually needed, and encouraged them warmly.

Within the group there was a wide range of levels of comprehension, physical dexterity, interest and enthusiasm, and skill. Judith met each person where they were, and knew how best to draw response, results, and joy, as well as pride in their work.
